Rug size guide for living rooms and bedrooms
What size rug you need for a living room, bedroom and dining room, with standard rug sizes in feet and simple layout rules.
Most rugs are bought one size too small. A rug that is too small makes furniture look like it is floating.
Living room
- Front legs on: every sofa and chair has its front legs on the rug. Usually 8 × 10 ft or larger.
- All legs on: for large rooms, 9 × 12 ft, with 30–45 cm of floor showing at the walls.
Bedroom
- Queen bed: 6 × 9 ft or 8 × 10 ft, placed so the rug extends 45–60 cm beyond each side.
- King bed: 8 × 10 ft or 9 × 12 ft.
- Or two runners, one on each side of the bed.
Dining room
Add 60–75 cm to each side of the table so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out.
For an exact fit, our rug systems are woven to the centimetre.
